Blog 2 – Ukulele + Pick

Hey bloggers,

Today I have been practicing the song Happier by Ed Sheeran on my ukulele. I don’t think I mentioned this in my last blog but when I used to play I would strum with my fingers. Since picking the ukulele back up I’ve been playing with a pick which has been an interesting transition. I find it produces a louder sound (crescendo) and that I am more consistent at strumming all the strings with the same pressure. I tried strumming with my thumb last week at school and it was just as easy as using a pick but I found that I would strum the G and C string a bit harder than E and A. This unfortunately didn’t make the song sound too great, I think it make the strumming a little pitchy.

Heres my ukulele and my pick!

Since my last blog I have improved my transition from F to G, it is happening more smoothly now. I focused most of my time last class on practicing it. I have also improved my transition into the second chord pattern change, but I am still struggling to remember the order of the chords in the third pattern change which happens at the end of the song. I am hoping I will have it memorized by next week for when I film my video but it is possible that I may need to have my chords handy for filming. I think that as long as I keep practicing that section I should be fine.
